Bachelor Pad Clutter

I don’t recommend trying to get organized all in one shot. It’s overwhelming. Instead, start with one or two important areas, and work your way down. We began by organizing the all important desktop/bookshelf that was in need of some attention. By removing everything and sorting through each piece of paper and the office supplies we were able to get rid of the unnecessary items. Clean as you go. This will save you time rather than letting things pile up and having to do a big cleaning session later. A great way to keep loose papers organized is by picking up file storage trays and…

A Craft Room Rediscovered Part 6

Excited to continue working on some tedious sorting, I arrived to find that some unfortunate events had occurred since my last session.  There had been some water leaking in the hallway and so everything from that area had to be moved to the craft room.  Two steps forward, one step back! With organization going into place it made it that much easier to put those things away!  Then it was back to the where I left off last time!  I had some scrapbook and jewelry totes on wheels that needed to be gone through.   What treasures will we find in…

Tidy Up That Garage Space!

Garages!  This client was ready to get hers tidied up!  And she was glad she could call in some help!  She had already started identifying like items and gathering them in totes on the shelves outside her entry door. We clarified what she wanted on each shelf and also took into consideration the priority of the convenient grab!   Other items were moved to locations further from the door.   Onto the other portion of shelving and miscellaneous items that tend to gather in garages! This part just needed a good going through so everything came off the shelves. Recent law school paperwork…

A Craft Room Rediscovered Part 5

The day I’ve been waiting for!   The craft room.  Nitty gritty jewelry sorting! So the jewelry items have been filtered out of the other craft categories and put into a generic jewelry pile!  I have added and added…. and added!   I know it goes to the jewelry category but what exactly is it? Wire?  Beading?  Pendant? Charm? Earring?  Luckily I had a pile of theses amazing craft organizers staring me in the face just waiting to be put to work!  I love theses things!! And boy did I ever have something to fill them with! Beads…Pendants for necklaces….. All…

Organizing to sell your home!

This is a great time of year to sell your home. Your open house is right around the corner and you’re tempted to toss all of your belongings into moving boxes. Pretty simple right? Organizing to sell your home is an opportunity to create a new chapter in your life and moving is the perfect time to de-clutter! If you haven’t used or worn an item of clothing in 6 months, donate it. Take the time to go through your old books, papers, clothing, child’s toys and get rid of them. A good place to start is with your bedroom and bathroom. We…

Organizing a Decor Closet

Our client has a guest room walk-in closet that she likes to use for storing linens, clothing, gift wrap, artificial flowers, candles, and other decor items. Many of the items were in different sizes of cardboard boxes, so they didn’t stack very well, and she couldn’t see what was inside.  It was pretty hard to locate the stuff that she wanted! The linens really took up a lot of space, and didn’t really fit in with the theme of the closet, so we removed them and put them in another closet that already had linens in it.  By storing “like…

Organizing and Containing Bathroom Items

We all have those few bottles of bathroom products that we used until they were almost empty, and instead of either finishing them up or throwing them away, we stuck them somewhere… Well, this client had a couple of those mingled with items from both of her parent’s houses that they gave to her after she moved into her own home. So, those few bottles… times three. First, pulled everything out of the closet. We then went through each container and bin item by item and put all of the similar items in piles together, organizing them by type. We had skin…

From Closet Chaos to Closet Tidy!

Whether you have lived in your home for a month or years you can always find things that you can PURGE! The best way to tackle an overflowing closet is just to start pulling things out, any and everything that is just thrown in there. When doing this start making piles that you will be able to tackle easily. Perhaps start with a pile for all of your shoes that you will be able to later match up and see which are out of style or you no longer wear. Make separate piles for bags/purses and even clothes that are not hung-up. Once you have everything sorted into….yes,…

Organizing Garage Storage

Garages are one of those places that ends up storing a little bit of everything for easier access. This specific garage was right off of the kitchen, making it a handy spot for overflow kitchen appliances and different cooking related items. This client also likes to decorate for the holidays, so she has some tote boxes stored here with Christmas decorations in them already.  However, there aren’t enough, so the overflow gets scattered.  She also uses this space for storing cleaning supplies, kitchenware, and small appliances.  She keeps one car in this space, but it is a two car garage.…

A Grandchildren's Play Closet

This is our client’s guest bedroom closet, used by her grandchildren. When they come to visit, this walk-in closet functions as a play closet and arts & crafts space.  This clever arrangement works pretty well, except that the toys get all jumbled together when the kids play. She is tired of having to do all of the picking up, so she enlisted our help! This client wanted a simple solution; one that the kids could manage mostly by themselves. First, I removed most of the items from the closet. Yup, there were a lot of scattered parts.  I put the ones that I couldn’t identify aside…
