Organizing BEFORE You Move: Save Time and Your Sanity

So, you’re moving! How exciting and yet, utterly terrifying. Moving doesn’t have to be your worst nightmare, though. It CAN have the potential to be only a mildly scary mini-dream. Below are a few tips to help you tame that moving beast while staying organized and at least partly sane. Visualizing the New Place Firstly,…

A Maximized Pantry

This client had a freshly remodeled kitchen but since moving everything back in, she hadn’t quite found the right place for it all. We started on the black hole cabinet space that I know is meant to make the best of a corner but, in every kitchen I’ve seen, those corner cabinets have more of a tendency to lose things! Below the counter, a great space with lazy-susans included but a bit a of everything down there, too. We started doing a little rearranging in some of the other cabinets to make things more convenient and then dug right into the…

Congested Closet Turned Creative Corner

Are you a gift giver?  Do you spend extra money on wrapping paper or gift bags not because you don’t have it but because the thought of finding it is too exhausting to even think about?  I’ve been there, I know.   And I hope I’m not speaking out of turn to say that it’s possible my client may have had some of the same feelings.  She had a closet, a closet that was a tad congested, too congested to allow her to be the gift giver I could tell she was!   She didn’t want it to be that way, but…

Purging Outdated Technology in a Home Office Closet

These clients are a sweet tech-loving couple. Shawna and I helped to organize their home office once before, but this time the home owners wanted to focus on the spacious home office closet . Closets can become a catch-all for all sorts of items, but with a little time and some help, it can be a breeze to fix. The closet was full of outdated computer wires, cds, hard disks, and computer parts. There were a lot of great bins and study boxes already in place, so one we removed the clutter, the storage containers were put to better use. In order…

Making A Workshop Work

Part of a workshop’s job description is to do some pretty heavy work.   It has to house all the things that are needed to do a job.  In my client’s case the construction business is the name of the game and there are so many facets to that.  His workshop was not doing the work it needed to make things easy to find and ready to go!  There were too many things on the floor blocking the shelves….   Or blocking other equipment that needed accessibility.   The solution was to do some sorting and consolidating on the shelves and…

A Music Room To Make Your Heart Sing

Do you have a place in your home where you refresh?  That makes you feel alive when you spend time there?  A  space that you spend your time doing what you love?   Well what if that room was overwhelming?  What if it was doing the exact opposite of what you intended because it was over-run with clutter and you didn’t even want to go into it anymore?   My client found himself in that predicament.   He had a beautiful room that he didn’t use and didn’t even want to be in because it looked like this….   What we needed was…

Solving The Walk-In Pantry Puzzle

I was excited to start my day with a pantry organize!  I knew this walk-in pantry was going to be a big job and my client got a jump on the work of clearing a lot of the pantry before I got there.   So when I arrived I knew we’d better get busy!   My client had admitted to being overwhelmed and we needed to find the perfect equation to not only get everything back into the pantry but also make it WORK!  The items from the pantry were also on the kitchen counter…. And a side table between the kitchen…

That Awkward Closet

Are you lost when it comes to that tiny office closet and you just can’t seem to figure out how to organize it?  Look no further! Here are a few ways to get in there and get it organized. My client needed some direction in where to even begin with her small yet long office closet. We started by pulling all items out, sorting through and putting them into categories by grouping like items (i.e. office supplies, paperwork, odds-n-ends), then placing them in boxes that we labeled. Labeling makes it a lot quicker to find a specific item that you are looking for. Now is a…

Bachelor Pad Clutter

I don’t recommend trying to get organized all in one shot. It’s overwhelming. Instead, start with one or two important areas, and work your way down. We began by organizing the all important desktop/bookshelf that was in need of some attention. By removing everything and sorting through each piece of paper and the office supplies we were able to get rid of the unnecessary items. Clean as you go. This will save you time rather than letting things pile up and having to do a big cleaning session later. A great way to keep loose papers organized is by picking up file storage trays and…

A Craft Room Rediscovered Part 6

Excited to continue working on some tedious sorting, I arrived to find that some unfortunate events had occurred since my last session.  There had been some water leaking in the hallway and so everything from that area had to be moved to the craft room.  Two steps forward, one step back! With organization going into place it made it that much easier to put those things away!  Then it was back to the where I left off last time!  I had some scrapbook and jewelry totes on wheels that needed to be gone through.   What treasures will we find in…
