A Craft Room Rediscovered

Most of the time when I show up to do an organize session my clients will apologize for the state of the area I am about to help them with.   My client for this session apologized profusely on the way to her craft room.  She admitted that it not only had been neglected for some time but that when she had gone in to try to clean it out she would become overwhelmed and leave extremely frustrated!   When I found out how many children she has I completely understood!!!   And I was very excited to get started!  I understand…

Unpacking a Catch-All Garage

When moving, we all have that one last space that often acts as a dumping ground for the stuff we aren’t quite sure what to do with ey. A lot of the times that space ends up being the garage. This newly combined family had just moved and had slowly been unpacking their garage which had become the catch-all from their move. A lot of what was in the garage was garage-related stuff like camping, sports equipment, tools, and boating supplies. Each of those areas were sorted into piles and while going through the contents, we were able to donate…

Organizing Paperwork in a Home Office

One of the toughest areas to keep organized is: PAPERWORK. There is constantly a steady stream of incoming mail, bills, business cards, greeting cards, flyers and who knows what else types of paper seeping in to our lives on a daily basis. If we don’t dedicate time to opening it, sorting it, and putting it away, it can build up FAST. This home office was over run with paperwork, mail, and magazines. This couple had a great system of incoming bills and a calendar of when each bill was due, knowing to pay it by that date. The problem they…

Straightening Up Office Storage

Like most closets, after a while, without fail… things get shoved in last minute just to be out of the way, and items have a tendency to get jumbled up. This office storage closet was no exception. It started off organized in containers and most like-items were with their counter parts but after a while, those containers were out of place from being taken out and put back on the shelf. Things got shoved in where they didn’t necessarily belong. We removed everything from the shelves and wiped them down. Then to put it all back… All the similar paper…

Stuffed Linen Closets

We’ve all been there in terms of linen closets: Quick… open the door just enough to shove the sheet set in there. Quick… close the door just in time to prevent a massive linen avalanche! Step One: Pull EVERYTHING out of the closet. Yes, everything. And then give those shelves a good wipe down with your favorite smelly good cleaner (check out our surface sprays made with aromatic essentials oils!). Step Two: Sort the linens by size and type. Piles on the floor work great, no need to get fancy with it. Step Three: Donate, throw away, or re-purpose whatever…

Organizing an Austin Kitchen

Every space, after a while, get’s unorganized due to misc. items placed in random spots. This kitchen is one of those examples. Busy families seldom get the time to take a 4 hour break to re-organize their kitchen. Enter: professional organizers. This client had a pretty good idea where she wanted her kitchen items. She stuck sticky notes on the outside of the cabinets so that we could stick closely to their current main areas for things. The non-kitchen stuff was moved to the pantry and to dining room storage, while the remainder was straightened up, and re-homed. The pantry,…

Organizing For Every Room

This day was such a joy! After planning to work solely on a bedroom and closet organize and finishing with plenty of time, we attacked not only a hall closet but also under the kitchen sink as well as some bathroom areas!! Now that is a happy day and I think my client felt like she got her money’s worth!! We started in the bedroom closet that she and her husband shared. The top shelf of the closet had been used for all of their jeans. Because it was a bit high and jeans were used often, the stacks were…

Catch-All Office Organize

This office organize started out just clearing space and shuffling some furniture around.   My client was extremely busy and had experienced many recent life changes, saying that this room had become a catch-all for a lot of different things!  After we moved a book case, I was able to put a box of books onto the shelves that eliminated one box. Empty drawers by the desk provided me with the opportunity to take a tub of office supplies and make them readily available for use. The closets in the office were storing extra clothing that did not fit in the…

Organizing a Storage Closet

This busy family of 6 needed a better system for their storage. Namely, all those cute keepsakes and kids’ artwork that they’d need to occasionally get to for school projects and ‘show and teach.’ This mom wanted a system that was easily accessible for her kids to put away their own artwork and get it out when they needed to. First we took everything out of the closet. The bedroom floor got a liiiittle crazy for a while while everything was strung all over the floor. We moved the larger boxes and items up to higher shelves for less frequent…

How to Organize Tupperware and Containers

No matter how they start out, container drawers always get crazy after a while. Every now and then you just have to make the time to go back, match the lids, and reset those container drawers. Here we have two container drawers. On the left, large containers. On the right, smaller containers. The first thing that needed to happen: everything out. There were some lids wedged back in behind the drawers and with everything out of the drawers, I was able to do a nice wipe down to clean them from fallen crumbs and dust. I then matched all of…
